week #29 – @jfporchez / Jean François

Who are you and where do you come from?
I’m Jean François Porchez, a typeface designer born (1964) and raised in Paris.

Share your twitter account with us and tell us what you are twittering about:
In fact I have 3 twitter accounts. @jfporchez is my personal account, the more open to any subjects from design, typography to politics and so on. I tweet in English and French depending the topic. From @typofonderie, I tweet as the rest of the team, but its oriented to typography and typefaces design. From @zecraft, I tweet as the rest of the team, but its still oriented to typography but also branding, graphic design.

Tell us about your creative side:
I co-founded long ago, and more recently. Typofonderie is an independent type foundry since 1994. ZeCraft is specialized in typographic design, bespoke typefaces, lettering jobs, logotypes… I can’t survive without a typeface design project on the way. Its my oxygen.

What inspires you?
Its very strange sikness, I see letterforms everywhere. This sikness is deep. Even in a form of a car design I can find inspiration or a new lettershape. My Instagram feed is a good start to understand my problem

Time travel: Where would you go to?
An impossible remix of Romain empire, Italian and French Renaissance period, 30’s in New York and Paris, 60’s swinging London.

Name your favorite present book:
The Scythe and the Rabbit: Simon de Colines and the Culture of the Book in Renaissance Paris by Kay Amert and Robert Bringhurst.
